Merano - The historical spa town on the Passer river

Merano is characterized by promenades and botanical gardens. From 1850 until the beginning of the First World War, Merano was the tourist attraction for the Central European upper classes, which is still clearly visible today. Art Nouveau villas of the Belle Époque and promenades, such as the Kurpromenade, define the inner town along the river Passer, while the town center still bears witness to the early blooming period in the late Middle Ages.

One of the most popular promenades in Merano is the botanical Tappeinerweg path, created in the 19th century. It runs along the mountainside, overlooking the rooftops of the town. And, on the way to the Merano 2000 hiking area, extend the botanical gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, which are today considered among the most beautiful gardens in the world.

At the heart of the historic spa town lies the Merano thermal bath, which offers a combination of bathing, wellness, and relaxation. The diverse cultural offerings include the Merano Spring festival, the traditional Grape Festival, the International Merano Music Weeks, the Merano WineFestival & Culinaria, and the Merano Christmas Market.
